Under Pressure

Okay.
Take a look at the picture.
Grossed out? Disgusted? Feel like killing those people who did that?
Well, the picture is just one side of the story.

It's the killing of seals, an annual event in Canada.
Animal rights organisations protest over this event every year too. Why?
Okay, not ALL animal rights organisations. Lets take PETA.
Yes, PETA the organisation that encourages people to protest on the streets naked.
Yes, that PETA.
PETA says its cruel to skin the seals.

Why don't they go protest not to skin cows? Not to break chicken necks?
300,000 seals get mauled every year,
but seals in the Canadian coast are overpopulated.
If seals are going to be extinct, fine protest for all I care.
But the very fact is, seals are overpopulated.
Seals are eating up so many fishes that the fishermen have nothing to fish =.=
The way chickens and cows and pigs are slaughtered are way worse than this.
Thats why I say its not cruel to kill seals.

One reason people protest is because seals are cute. Kawaii. QQ. Comel.
Just because seals are cute doesn't mean its cruel to kill them.
Its just the human nature that thinks cute animals should not be killed.
Although I agree that the pictures are just toooo cute,
that you don't really want to kill them :/
For example,

Which of those two would you rather see killed?
The bottom is actually the Purple Frog. An endangered species.
Its 5% of the seal population.

And which one would you kill?

p.s. I'm also doing this to prove I'm not a bimbo lah. =D

Yeah I know this is an old post but I happened to find it while searching for pics of baby seals. =}
And I have some arguments. First: the fact that some species is overpopulating, doesn't mean that we are free to slaughter them. If they're overpopulating, it's probably out fault for causing unbalance on the food chain.
Second, they're really killed in a cruel way. And yes, such are cows and other animals that people seem to care less, cause everybody's used to that, but people who REALLY care about animal welfare also care about the cows and etc.
But I think what attracts more people's attention, besides the cuteness hehe, is the fact that they're wild animals. We kill cows cruelly, but they're domesticated, we farm them (not that that's a excuse for slaughtering them neither - all animals deserve respect, even if it's a necessary killing for some very good reason, it deserves a respectful death).

Humans are overpopulating too but I doubt a person with good sense would incentivate the coletive slaughtering of people. It's just that we think we have rights upon other living being's lives.

Oh and a person that really care about animal welfare and lives wouldn't kill the ugly frog neither nor want it to be killed. If someone does, you can call him a hypocrite.
